This section I will start out by saying, I will not promote getting equipment, but if you are reading my blog you may have questions about what I prefer. So I will tell you what I prefer, but if you have not learned how to use something you can do more harm than good.
If you and your doctor have discussed getting an otoscope, I would go all out. This is one piece of equipment that cost does matter. I personally like Welch Allyn. They are light weight (not as light weight as some, but you aren’t holding it for that long to notice a huge difference), the light is great!, switching heads is really easy. It’s nice that you can plug the handle into the wall to charge it.

The price on this starts at $500, depending on what you purchase.
I know that $500 is up there in price, especially if you are looking at using it….. 4 times a year? 8 times a year?
That is where I was at when I purchased my travel otoscope by Dr. Mom. It is a good go to when I am out and about and just want to make sure I go down our checklist of signs and symptoms. The light is not as bright as my Welch Allyn but it does the job. There are not as many head options, but that’s ok because when we are out I’m usually just looking to see what color the drainage is and if her tube is there.
